A Leggings PSA

Leggings are awesome.  Really awesome.  They’re so comfortable and they can look really chic depending on the outfit.  In my opinion, the best way to wear leggings for both comfort and style is with an oversized sweater (with some zipper or stud detailing!) and tall boots.  It’s perfect for fall!  However, a lot of people don’t quite understand how to properly style leggings.  So, here are some basic rules for wearing leggings in public (other than at the gym):

1.     Leggings are not pants.  Really.  Not even the thick kind.  Or printed ones.   Please do not consider them an alternative to jeans for the fall.
2.     With that in mind, make sure your top covers your butt.  Completely.  You can go with an oversized sweater, a tunic top, a sweatshirt, a dress, whatever you want as long as you are covered.
3.     Black leggings do not go with absolutely anything.  Just because you have a big comfy sweater and you don’t feel like wearing jeans does not mean you can always just throw on some black leggings.  The basic rules of matching your clothes still apply with leggings.
4.     If your black leggings (or any leggings, really) are beginning to become worn or getting that fuzzy texture they aren’t supposed to have, get a new pair.
5.     Additionally, keep black leggings clear of the hairs or fuzzies that tend to find their way to black clothing.
6.     Leggings do not belong under shorts.  Especially denim shorts.  If you can pull off tights with shorts for the fall, feel free, but do not combine leggings with shorts.

Please remember that even on your lazy days you can look presentable, and it still requires hardly any effort.  Don’t be that girl that broke the Leggings Rules and has other girls trying to snipe pictures to send to their friends.  ;-)

Trashy Friday: Utopia and Virgin Territory Season Finale

Welcome again to another fantastic edition of Trashy Fridays. Today we will be reviewing Fox’s Utopia and the season finale of MTV's Virgin Territory. So let’s get to the trashiness!

Utopia- Week Two, Episode B
In the evening, Red starts hunting because the group is running low on food and a self-sustaining Utopia is ideal for him. A heat wave hits, and it will be over 100 degrees. Hex and Taylor seem to be developing a thing for each other. Dedeker has a meeting discussing their governing style. Amanda wants a Democratic Republic, where an elected group decides on matters. Rob says that he could be a speaker, and will take ideas from individuals and talk about them with the group; after, the group will decide on the issue with a vote. Bella thinks it would be great if the guys rule for one day and then the girls do the next day. Basically, alternating power every day. Chris thinks having alternating groups like that is a waste of time. Hex wants a self-policing system; Josh doesn’t like this idea because they have tried it and it doesn’t seem to work. Bri wants to see how a dictatorship would work out in Utopia. She wants one leader to make decisions until someone overthrows them. Dedeker decides that the group should try different governing styles and see which one makes the group the happiest. So they leave the decision to chance and they are first going to try the self-policing style Hex suggested.

After 3 hours of hunting, Red gets a deer.  Bella decides, after looking at the garden, that the group can survive without meat and seems upset that the deer is dead.  She looks at the deer as they gut it and such, to make sure it’s dead. (Like, duh, Bella omg.) Hex and Taylor hang out and he forgets her name and calls her Helen. (Haha, that’s so terrible!) Red makes wine out of raisins, water, sugar, and condoms. (Just ew, it just looks wrong and it isn’t something I would want to drink.)  That night Hex and Taylor have a pointless conversation about government. Basically, Taylor says that he doesn’t understand it well. They end the night by going to bed with each other. (Seriously, relationships develop so fast here, I just don’t understand it.)

The next day, due to the fact it’s Sunday, Josh decides to wear short shorts. (And they show way too much…) Bella notices and admires his package. Rob decides to join in on the fun and puts on his short shorts. (Even though he isn’t too happy about the short shorts.) Chris and Taylor also enjoy the fun. So Bri spills her breakfast and she leaves it for Chris to clean. This doesn’t make him happy so he confronts her about it.  Bri and Chris have their first argument. Hex then explains to the group how anarchy works. Aaron and Kristen decide that they can live in luxury, so they order food without permission from the group. (Seriously, how do people keep getting away with taking the money?) Taylor and Hex ask Rob to settle an argument about having sex before developing a relationship and learning how to have sex with each other. Taylor thinks that sex is basically a deal breaker, and if you can’t enjoy it the first time, there is no point in having a relationship. (What???) Hex thinks they need the emotional connection and a couple can learn how to please each other. Rob asks her if she wouldn’t mind a man with a small dick. (Like omg, how old are these people…)  Hex says of course, if she loved him enough. Bri and Chris are still mad and decide to not see each other anymore.

The group decides to go with their second business idea, Aaron’s Boot Camp to make money.  Once again, they only have one customer come to boot camp.  Rob decides they need bottled water to sell to people. Bella disagrees because it’s not healthy. (Seriously Bella, you need money. I hate Bella’s attitude about everything, like shut up!)   Hex just says that the issue doesn’t matter at this point and wants to just go swimming (because it's hot) This, again, upsets Bella because she feels disrespected.  They have a stupid argument. (Seriously, Bella is so annoying she needs to go.) Hex decides to be the bigger person and to be personally responsible for the argument, so she apologizes to Bella.  That night they have a party for Chris’s birthday with the food Aaron bought without permission.

The next morning Mike looks at the funds and gets mad at Bella for wanting something stupid. (After Aaron and Kristen spend $500 on pointless things in one day.) As we’ve known, they are running out of money, which is bad.  Bri and Chris decide to just be friends. Bella starts to hit on Taylor, because she ismighty thirsty now. Kristen and Aaron talk about the fact that Josh is racist to Amanda.  Bri calls for an emergency vet visit for a sick chicken and it costs $125. (This doesn’t make the group very happy.) Josh and Aaron have an argument about his racial comments, because Josh doesn’t think he meant anything bad by saying them.  Dedeker has another meeting to discuss the finances.  She thinks the personal money should be decreased so there is more money for the group. The main point of the meeting is that the group can’t spend more money for food this week and will need to cut back so they can survive. (Will this happen? Probably not because these people just don’t know what they are doing.) After the meeting, Josh apologizes to Aaron and they are able to patch things up. The girls have a party for Chris that includes stripping. Hex gets drunk on tequila and Taylor starts making fun of her.  They end up having a drunken argument, which makes no sense at all. Taylor thinks that she has a problem with alcohol. Others like Mike, have admitted they get really bad when drunk. (Seriously, everyone needs to stop drinking, it just keeps causing more problems!) Bri and Chris are still in a relationship, what a shocker! They are heard kiss slurping each other. (Ew.)  Taylor and Hex are able to patch up their relationship at the end of this episode.

This show is getting so boring, I really am finding it hard to keep watching. Money issues are so apparent, yet they do nothing to stop their spending. I am just waiting for them to go broke and have even more conflicts. After watching the Hex and Taylor debate on having sex before a relationship starts, I had to talk with Alyssa and we both have a strong opinion on this issue.  We believe that a strong bond will lead to better sex.  The more you like the person, the more you will want and accept them, even if the moment isn’t perfect. It is really hard to have your relationship just rely on how sexually compatible you are with your partner. Having that fact be a deal breaker can set anyone up to get hurt.  I’m not exactly sure how guys feel about this, but for girls having the emotional connect will often help with the physical one. So a tip to you girls out there, if a guy is trying to pressure you into doing something like this even if you don’t want to, he isn’t the one for you. There is our rant for this week J.

Utopia- Week Three, Episode A

It is shown that things are looking up as they are starting to build a modest living area and Bella’s garden is starting to show green. Bri moves out of Chris’s side of the room. (So they are over, I just don’t understand...) Chris divides their things as evenly as possible. When Nikki asks about their relationship, Chris says they are taking it slow for now. (Can someone please explain what these couples are thinking, because I’m lost!) Taylor and Hex patch things up and they hang out in a hammock. He informs her that he was a male escort for a year. (Wait, what!?) For today’s episode, they are going to try having the women be in charge of the government. (Bella’s idea, I can’t wait to see how well this goes. *cough cough* Not.) Bella asks if pads for the women can be included in the next grocery expense, but Aaron thinks that is personal money, and the girls should buy them themselves. Bella thinks that what he said was disrespectful and he can kiss her grits. (Like, really, Bella? Omg the maturity level of these people is astounding.) The group has another business meeting and they decide to do a "live in Utopia weekend" with the option of boot camp and yoga to help them make money.

Being ignored about her water filter idea hasn’t stopped Bella from getting one anyway. She ordered one a week ago and the group has to pay $169 for it. Naturally, lots of people are upset about this. Since she is at the waterfall being naked, they decide to return the filter without her knowing about it. (Because what she won’t know won’t hurt her. Or, when she finds out she’ll just have another meltdown.) The group thinks that Bella should leave, so they either want to kick her out or have her leave under her own volition. To let Bella know that the water filter has been returned, they have a play to reenact that moment. (The play is absolutely ridiculous.) So Bella gets mad and says they need the filter! Again she feels disrespected and no one really wants to hear her out. (Omg I can predict the future, because she has a meltdown. Go me!) Bella just can’t take it, but a lot of the girls don’t want her to leave. Amanda stands up to tell people that they shouldn’t bully anyone. Josh agrees that Bella is crazy but they should be nicer to her. Aaron says he will try to give her more compliments and be nicer to her. So Aaron apologizes and Bella seems to feel better. The group tries to use their skills to make things for the Utopian experience to sell for money. They work into the night to make their products and then they have a celebration. Taylor just removes his clothes and jumps in the lake. Bella likes it because, again, just so thirsty.

The next morning, Nikki somehow convinces Red to do yoga with her. Red is surprisingly good at it. Bella decides that for the next few days the girls should rule Utopia, but she gets input from the guys first. No one is opposed to the idea, and they all say nice things about women. (Go guys!) They do mention that women can be emotional, but they want to see how it goes. However, Rob says they could be the tampon party. (OMG stop being so immature!) The women discuss their rules and how they break up chores and punishment for not doing chores. (Which is no cupcakes... Like, what kind of punishment system is this?) For now the guys think it’s nice to have peace and quiet. They also think that the women will fail. The group has another meeting to discuss who gets the family visit of the week. They all agree that Red gets the first visit from his family. Red is really excited to see them and we learn a lot about how they met. He and his wife have sex under the barn. (Well, at least it’s private...) Amanda has a doctor come in to check on her and they talk about the birth of her baby. Red seems very sweet to his wife and he comforts her when she gets emotional. That night the girls have a meeting to discuss chores and to give the men compliments. The girls divide the chores into three categories and have everyone sign up to do miscellaneous tasks. (The girls are doing such a good job with their governing style and they are being very reasonable with their requests. I really like their approach!) Everyone seems to like these new rules and they sign up right away, except for Red. Red says that the women can’t just decide that they are equal. (Red seems very old fashioned and doesn’t want to hear anyone out during this whole process. It is getting so annoying and I really wish he would be more open minded.)

After the girls assign chores, everyone wakes up early to get them done before 8am. Well, everyone but Bri... The guys in the group have had it with her behavior and they kind of want her to go. (Bri is very immature and doesn’t seem like she wants to put in any extra effort for their new society.) Red thinks he needs to give Bri a talk, but Bella disagrees, thinking it’s the women’s job since they are in charge. (Red doesn’t think the women are in charge...) So Red and Bella have a huge argument. Rob and Nikki talk and they agree that they don’t feel like they are dealing with adults here. (Agreed, and it’s absolutely ridiculous!) Bella has an intervention with Bri to show that she was wrong today. Taylor just tells her that he’s disappointed that she didn’t do her jobs. Bri promises that things will be different because she cares about Utopia. Bella ends the meeting by asking everyone to hug. The group is now down to $1300. They invest $400 to buy a laptop and use it to promote their Utopian experience business idea. That night Rob makes a speech to pump everyone up for their new business idea that starts the next day. He says he feels embarrassed that they are acting the way they do. (Rob has a very good point. Even I have noticed that all of these issues that they’ve had have been the same throughout the entire series and they do not seem to be getting anywhere.)

It is the first day of the Utopian Experience! Everyone gets up to help out, even Bri. She helps out with her chores, but honestly wants to be asleep still. (Haha, I understand, girl.) Rob opens the gates and 20 people come for the Utopian Experience. Everyone helps by giving tours and trying to sell their products. They are able to satisfy everyone who comes and they are able to work together really well. (Which is a happy change to see.) That night it is revealed that they made $2983. They are so proud of this achievement.  With the new money, Aaron decides to get Bella her water filter. Bella is so happy that they bought it for her. The girls have a meeting with each other to say how proud they are that the women-ruled society worked. But the guys still seem like they are annoyed with it.

It was good to see that the Utopians seem to be working together even better. In the next episode they get a new guy to join their society and another change in government occurs.

Virgin Territory

It's the season finale, and we are so sad that this series is coming to an end. In this episode, we will continue the stories of Alec, John and Abby. We are also introduced to a new girl, Emily. Let’s get to it!

Alec
Alec hangs out with Corey, his crush. He talks about moving out of his house so he can have some more freedom. Alec asks about their relationship status, and Corey says that they are dating. (Yay!) Corey says that he enjoys hanging out with him. Alec is excited about their relationship status. He and his mom talk about him moving out. His mom says it’s a lot of pressure, but Alec is ready to move out.  Naturally they both get emotional because it’s a huge change. (And it's so sad!) Alec brings Corey over to meet his friends. Jon was kinda intrusive but he made Corey a cookie. He and Corey had a long hug and Alec flipped him off. Corey then meets Alec’s mom. They talk again about him moving out soon. Alec gets emotional and thanks his friends and mom for the support they have given him for these past couple of months. He has learned to accept himself now and he decides to stay a virgin and to see where his relationship with Corey goes. Alec was one of the best characters! I am so happy that he has learned to accept himself and I wish him the best of luck with everything!

John
John goes to the batting cage and talks with his friend. We now learn that he hasn’t seen Jazmin since their date, and that she has quit her job. John also says one of his friends hooked up with his ex, and he doesn’t seem to care. (He seems really immature about relationships and sex, and that’s why he is a virgin, most likely.) John and his friends go to the club to meet some girls. His friends are so immature and they make a pact to punch him in the face if he doesn’t get laid. (Seriously!! WTF is wrong with these people!?) John decides to confront his ex, Jen, to see why he fails in his relationships. Jen says she broke up with him because it was better that they remained friends and he doesn’t communicate well. She also says he should be more spontaneous and do something to surprise his girl.  John agrees with her and he really felt like her advice will help him. He thinks about pursuing Justine again, because he is the most relaxed with her.  So he talks with her and asks her on another date. Justine accepts, she’s a really nice girl! John talks with his mom about his sex life. She advises him to wait for the right girl who he will really care for.  John and Justine go to the aquarium for their date. He uses this time to make up for blowing her off before, and they kiss. (Their date was really cute.) Five months later, he and Justine decide to stay friends. He and his friends go to Vancouver and he has his first time with a random girl. John is now off the show, but he says that he had a good first time. Um, John was so annoying and I felt like he didn’t even listen to his mom. He had sex for the wrong reasons, to please his homies. I’m glad he was able to enjoy his first time, but I think he should’ve shared the moment with a girl that he had a better relationship with.

Abby
Abby tells her friends about the trip. (Mostly.) She shares with them that she wasn’t in the mood, and lied about the true reason it didn’t happen. She doesn’t want to talk about the bathroom incident. (Can't blame her there, haha!) Her friends say it was good to listen to herself and they suggest just trying again when she is ready. Abby feels like she wants to have sex more than ever now. Kyle and Abby play Jenga at his house and talk for a while about what he said to his friends. (He says guys don’t really get into the drama or gossip much.)  While she walks away, he writes an I love you note and puts it in the stack. Abby finds it when the stack falls and she thinks it was so cute of him to do. They go to bed and start kissing and get close. Abby loses her virginity to Kyle. She said that it really hurt, but Kyle was there to comfort her.  Her advice for virgins is to not stress about losing it and to lose it with the right guy. I loved Abby and I love her advice. Kyle and Abby were a great couple! He seemed like an amazing guy and he really cared about her, so I know Abby made the right decision.

Emily
Emily is a 20 year old virgin from New Hampshire. Due to the fact that she could not insert a tampon correctly, she went on the Internet to see what was wrong with her. She discovered that she had a Septate Hymen. (Which is basically a thick skin that blocks the opening of the vagina.) She has had a surgery and is now cured, but still feels like her vagina is blocked. (It causes insecurities for her.) Emily wants to lose her virginity to Jesse, her very supportive boyfriend. She is afraid that sex is going to hurt, and trying to get into it has made her cry and become upset. Emily goes to a sex therapist to help her get over her fears. (The therapist suggests she get to know her "goddess", aka her vagina. The therapist is a little different.) Jesse and Emily go on a 10 month anniversary date. (How cute!) After the date, they go home and Emily uses a mirror to explore her lady parts. She does that in private and she felt like this was really important to do this. Jesse gives her a mirror and lets her do her thing. Emily is surprised to see it open! She tells Jesse about it and he is really supportive. (I like this boy!) He seems to enjoy being there for her and hearing her out as she talks about that problem. Jesse and Emily go to the therapist's office together. They talk about how sex is not only about the genitals, and the therapist and Jesse talk about different kinds of sex that can be arousing. Emily and the therapist agree to keep moving forward until she is comfortable.  She goes to a sex shop to buy a sex toy with her friends. Emily feels like the more she gets used to sex, the more control she has over her life. She decides to go over to Jesse’s house to share the toy with him. After talking with him about the toy and trying it out, she feels ready to have sex with him.  Emily asks if Jesse wants to try have sex and they get it on.  Emily did have sex with Jesse, but she didn’t film her reaction because she preferred to keep it private. I really like Emily and I’m glad she got control of her sex life. Also I think it’s great that she kept it private, because I think sex isn’t always something that you have to share with the world.

This finale was so awesome and I hope MTV will renew it for another season.

Since Virgin Territory has ended, and to be honest, Utopia is boring me, I would like to choose two new shows for next week’s Trashy Fridays. You guys have been so supportive of this series that I would like to leave the decision up to you. Comment below or tweet at us telling us any trashy show that deserves to be dished on!

Yummy and Simple Granola Bars

Granola bars, the perfect portable snacks! But when you buy them, most are full of unnecessary amounts of sugar.  The best way to control that is to make your own and I have two amazing recipes that you can make at home! Either recipe that I have can be tweaked to your tastes and you can add just about anything you love to your homemade granola bars.

Sweet and Salty Bars:
-2 cups of toasted rolled oats (To toast, just put them in a single layer on a pan and put in the oven for 10 minutes on 350. Stir them around once half way through.)
-1 cup of toasted almonds (unsalted, chopped) (To toast, just put on a pan in the oven at 350. They are done once they become fragrant.)

-1/4 cup of honey
-3 tbsps of brown sugar
-1 tsp of salt

-1 tsp of cinnamon
-1/4 cup of raisins (if desired)

Directions: Heat oven to 350. Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Then, mix together the oats, nuts, salt and cinnamon in a bowl. In a sauce pan, heat together the sugar and honey for a few minutes on medium heat. When the sugar dissolves, put this mix in the bowl with the other ingredients and stir until well incorporated. Then place all of this in one layer on the baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, until golden brown on top. Take out and completely cool, then you can cut and wrap them to easily take with you.

Chocolatey Peanut Butter Bars:
-2 cups of toasted rolled oats
-1/2 cup of toasted unsalted peanuts, chopped
-1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips
-1/2 cup of dark chocolate
-1/3 cup of smooth peanut butter
-1/4 cup of white sugar
-1 tsp of salt

Directions: Heat oven to 350. Place some parchment paper on a baking sheet. Mix together the oats, white sugar, salt, peanuts and mini chocolate chips in a bowl. Create a double boiler and melt the dark chocolate with the peanut butter. When the chocolate is melted and the mix is smooth, put it in the bowl with the other ingredients. Mix and place this in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, cool, cut and then enjoy.

Best (Almost) Everyday Beauty Products

These are some of my favorite beauty products that I use just about every day.  Some are new, some are classics, but they’re all great!  All of these products can be purchased at Sephora, except for the MAC powder, which is found at MAC Cosmetics stores and in some Macy’s.

1.     MAC Pressed Blot Powder- This lightweight pressed powder is medium coverage, buildable and mattifying.  I used to use it a few years ago as an all over product, either as a light layer over foundation or just on its own, but now I use it only on spots that need a little extra coverage.  It’s great both ways, as it can set your foundation if you use it all over or it can set concealer when applied just on blemishes.
2.     MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microfinish Powder- This is a loose translucent powder.  It.  Is.  Amazing.  It completely soaks up excess oil (though too much can make you skin flaky!) and sets foundation and concealer so they last much longer.  I keep a mini size in my bag to use throughout the day.  For medium to darker skin tones this can create a slightly strange tint, however I think a smaller amount of the product, well-blended, can still look great.
3.     Bobbi Brown Corrector- This is a creamy, concealer-like product that goes on under eye circles.  It’s essentially like a green concealer for blemishes, but the yellow undertones in the corrector are perfect for canceling out the purple color under your eyes.  A little bit goes a long way, and with a small amount of regular concealer on top you’ll look well rested!
4.     NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer- This is by far the best concealer I’ve ever used.  Just as the name says, it’s really creamy and blends flawlessly.  Just a small amount gives great coverage.  It conceals blemishes, redness, dark spots like hyperpigmentation, and under eye circles all perfectly!  It lasts all day even with my oily skin.
5.     Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette- This palette has 6 great, natural color eye shadows.  It’s perfect for everyday daytime looks.  You can create nighttime looks too, however I feel the colors are more suited to a natural look.  (Other Naked palettes are great for night, though!)  I use the color W.O.S as a base color for looks that I create even with other palettes.
6.     NARS Eyeliner Stylo- This eyeliner is a felt-tip marker liquid liner.  I have black.  It goes on smoothly and dries quickly, but not before you can fix any small mistakes.  It is similar to the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, however I’ve found that the Stila is very watery and I much prefer the NARS formula.
7.     Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade- I’ve written about this product already, but I had to include it in this post because it’s amazing and I use it every day!  It lasts all day long without smudging or fading, even in the rain. (Really!)

8.     Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve- This product is as moisturizing as Vaseline but smells exactly like roses.  It feels luxurious when you apply it right before bed and it keeps your lips moisturized until morning.  Plus, it’s a fraction of the price of the Dior version!

Flavors of Fall: Pumpkin Spice Granola

This recipe is quick and easy (as usual!), and it’s versatile!  Eat the granola on its own as a snack, put it on some yogurt for breakfast or even add it to some pudding or ice cream for a lighter dessert!

Ingredients
·      1/2 cup maple syrup
·      1/2 cup pure pumpkin puree
·      1 tsp cinnamon
·      1/8 tsp nutmeg
·      3 cups oats

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.  In a small, microwaveable bowl mix together the maple syrup and pumpkin puree.  Microwave the mixture for 2 minutes on high (careful, it gets really hot!) then mix again.  Transfer the mixture to a larger bowl and stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg.  (I like a little extra cinnamon!)  Then stir in the oats one cup at a time, making sure to completely coat all the oats.  Spread the granola on a cookie sheet (try to break up large clumps and spread it fairly evenly, but you’ll be able to break up the granola after it bakes so don’t worry about it being perfect) then put the tray in the oven for 7 minutes.  After the first 7 minutes, use a spatula to break up larger clumps and flip the granola over.  Then put the tray back in the oven for 5 minutes.  After that, break up any more clumps and let it cool.

For extra crunch, add pecans or walnuts to your granola.  If you want to add a little extra sweetness, mix in some cinnamon chips.  You can completely customize this recipe to your liking!
