Trashy Friday: Virgin Territory and Utopia

Welcome to another exciting edition of Trashy Fridays! This week we will continue to cover MTV’s Virgin Territory and Fox’s Utopia. So let’s get into the trashiness!

Virgin Territory

For this episode we will continue the stories of Keyaira, John and Alec. We are also introduced to Abby.

Keyaira

Keyaira tells us she's afraid that once she gives up the "cookie", her guy will leave her, so she's shutting the jar. I really love the way she words everything, it’s so awesome! Cauri is coming over to be introduced to the rest of the family.  Keyaira’s mom asks weird questions, like "Are you a virgin?", "Do you like girls?", etc. She makes their dinner really embarrassing. Her parents learn that he doesn’t use condoms and Keyaira’s mom doesn’t like it. Cauri and Keyaira talk after dinner and he agrees that your virginity is something you have to be confident about giving, not just like eh, I think I’ll do it. He says after you do it you’ll want it again and again, like you crave it. Keyaira decides to introduce Cauri to Ricky, her vibrator. They both laugh as Cauri says how uncomfortable he is (haha, I love this show!).  Mom shows up and announces that Cauri has to go home. Keyaira thinks this night was an absolute disaster and still feels embarrassed. The day after, Keyaira believes her mom scared Cauri away because he won’t return any of her messages. She tells her friend about her night with Cauri and her friend could just tell it was a disaster, so she convinces Keyaira to call Cauri.  Cauri says he felt very awkward after that night and he doesn’t know if he wants to hang out again. (Aw poor Keyaira, but he’s got a point, her mom was quite pushy.)  Keyaira confesses that this has happened with all of her boyfriends and her mom pushes it way too far. Keyaira has a talk with her mom and she promises to back off. She decides to wait for the right guy and to remain a virgin. Keyaira leaves the show, and I will miss her.

John

John shares how obvious it is that he gets flustered around girls (like, it’s so obvious!) and that he feels the pressure to lose his virginity because he is the only virgin in his group of friends. He decides to take Justine on another date so she knows that he wants to date her. He asks her if they can be more than friends and Justine replies that she doesn’t know because it could be really awkward between them. John also asks about the kiss and Justine keeps laughing because it is so awkward. Later, he goes golfing with his friends and tells them about his dates with Justine. John then announces that he has another interest, Jazmin, whom he works with.  His friends convince him he needs to have more options, instead of just sticking with Justine.  So, John goes on a date with Jazmin.  (He is so nervous on the date that he is shaking.) He tells Jazmin that he’s a virgin and she thinks it is totally fine.  After he tells her that he opens up a lot more. They kiss at the end of their date. (She seems like a really great girl, hopefully John is actually interested in her as a person and not just as a means to lose his virginity, as he made it sound after the date...)

Alec

Alec and his friend Jolene are going to a gay club.  Alec has a very awkward conversation with a drunk, gay man, who cannot understand how Alec knows he's really gay if he hasn’t had sex yet. Drunkie thinks that he’s using Jolene as a cover up. They kind of have a mini argument, because Alec feels that Drunkie should really understand Alec's struggle. A drag queen, named Fabulous (awesome name), who saw the incident, says that she totally understands Alec and that the other guy was just drunk.  After that they leave the club.  Alec goes on some bumper boats with his buddies (I want to do that!) and announces that he got an online dating profile, as he feels like going to the gay bars and clubs is not helping him to meet anyone. Alec has his first date with Cory, the guy he met online. They talk and then they kiss (Alec's first!), and Alec seems to be really excited about this new guy!

Abby

Now, Abby.  Abby is an 18 year old virgin from Michigan. She is a virgin because she is waiting for the right guy, who she feels she has now found in her boyfriend, Kyle. She feels like he is always there for her and she is ready to have sex. For Valentine’s Day she and Kyle have booked a room for the weekend. Abby is nervous, which is totally understandable, so she shares her concerns with her boss. She feels like it’s the best day to lose her virginity but she is concerned that people will call her a slut for doing it. Even though she is a virgin, a rumor went around during high school that she slept around, due to her flirty personality and big boobs, and now she's a little insecure. (Poor Abby.)  Abby also has concerns that Kyle has a big penis, and she has a small vagina, so she thinks she needs some help. (Oh god, well good idea, but still, why have this conversation at work!?) She also says that she likes to receive oral even though Kyle doesn’t like to give it and be down there. And she says that he’s got to get over it. (Haha, stand your ground girl!) Kyle asks if she’ll wear anything sexy, and Abby says no because she really doesn’t know how to dress that way. She insists that if they went lingerie shopping that he’d have to pick out the stuff so that she can’t be blamed if she looks bad. Kyle says that she looks great no matter what. (Good boy, Kyle!)  Abby’s mom comes home while they are hanging out and she tells them "Hey, you don’t have to have sex for Valentine's Day, guys", but they kind of dismiss it. Apparently Abby feels like her mom wants her to be a virgin forever!  On the way to the hotel Abby's mom kept texting her, which annoys Kyle and results in a mini argument. (Not a great start to the romantic weekend!) Kyle and Abby check into their hotel room and she is really impressed with the room. While Kyle returns the cart, Abby gets her presents ready. ;-) She gets flower petals and spreads them on the bed, writes “Happy Valentine’s Day” on the mirror, blows up balloons, etc. to set the mood. She says she is so ready for him and that the best present a woman can give a man is the pleasure of enjoying her. (Uhh... Hm.) Abby and Kyle go on their first romantic dinner and talk about her "title" changing. He says she shouldn’t care what people think. After talking with Kyle she feels at ease and is ready to take their relationship to the next level.  The romance is getting on and they decide to shower together, but… Kyle has to use the bathroom (for 20 minutes) and the romance dies. After he is done Abby doesn’t want a shower and she insists they lay in bed and talk.

Next week is the season finale of this show! I’m excited! It seems like there will be a new girl getting ready to lose her v-card, Alec gets into a relationship, Abby gets even closer to Kyle, and John is still figuring out who to have a relationship with.

Utopia

Episode 3

We start this episode with two people coming to Utopia. The 14 pioneers have to choose which one will stay with them.  They have 3 days to get to know them and then they will decide who stays.  Rhonda tried to convince them by bringing silverware, soap and hot sauce. Kristin just says she is determined, she is willing to do any job, and can help them make money.

Red and David still have the Utopia State of Freedom and they are trying to find a business idea to help them make money.  Bella and Josh seem to have a better relationship now and they may develop a romance.  She seems to be open to the possibility of a relationship, but Josh really isn’t interested. The group finally gets plumbing, but they have noticed that they have spent $1,000 in a week. They are running out of money quickly and this most likely will cause some conflict soon.  An argument occurs when the Utopia State of Freedom doesn’t get enough bananas back from what they traded the day before.  The argument comes to Hex and David. David gets mad and threatens to leave again. Red is upset that David left and he feels like he failed him. He confesses that life has been hard for him and he’s been in trouble before. Everyone is encouraging Red to just try to make himself feel happy and that he is a good man.

It is now Day 9 and the group will soon decide who will stay in Utopia out of the newcomers.  Kristin helps milk the cows. Rhonda tries to help in the garden, but after Bella starts to micromanage, she gets frustrated and leaves. Bella wants people to help but will not let them dig up the stuff she needs. To be honest, she doesn’t even let people know what to do, she just gets on them when they aren’t doing it correctly.  Mike and Dedeker (the girl with 2 boyfriends and one girlfriend) seem to be developing a relationship. (How many does she need!?) Since she isn’t being respected, Bella talks with Josh about how she feels. Somehow Josh makes her feel better. The kitchen equipment comes, and now they have a fridge and stove, but they only have $3300 left in their bank. Money is going to become a huge concern soon. The pioneers get a letter from David in the mail.  David asks if they can forgive him and allow him back in Utopia. If they decide not to he asks just to be baptized on Sunday. Rob says that he doesn’t want him to come back and that the negative energy left when David was gone. Aaron says he should be allowed back, as he has been in the same place that David has been. The group votes that they do not want him to come back to stay, but they do grant him his baptism wish.

We now come to Day 10 in Utopia. Mike and Dedeker are found sleeping with each other. Josh and Rob continue to get the plumbing working.  He announces that they got the toilet to work, and they have 2 more places in the barn to access water. David comes back to be baptized in Utopia. He makes a speech apologizing for his actions. The group tells him that they don’t want him back, and he seems fine with it.  Everyone watches as Jon baptizes David and he promises to devote his life to Christ. Then they tell him goodbye. Many of the pioneers get emotional.

As time goes on it is apparent that the group has no leader, no way to make decisions, and everyone continues to have conflict with one another. Someone says they need a microwave. Bella says absolutely not, because it causes cancer and such.  She says they aren’t educated and Aaron gets offended. Mike decides that they need a discussion and Bella agrees. But Mike was kidding and he makes fun of the issue. Aaron says that Josh needs to take one for the team to help Bella get off their backs. It is now time for the group to decide which newcomer stays in Utopia. Both newcomers make another speech saying why they should stay.

Episode 4- Week Two

The group decides to allow Kristin to stay in Utopia. Bri and Kristin talk about relationships in Utopia and Kristin says the girls are thirsty. (Oh god, no, just no.) Money concerns come up as higher expenses for gas and water filters will leave them with only $1500 left. They really need to earn some money. Jon dislocates his thumb when playing ball with Josh. A nurse comes to check on his thumb and he learns that he actually broke it.  He needs surgery to put pins in it and he also must keep his wound as clean as possible. The nurse informs everyone that if Jon has the surgery that he will have to leave Utopia for 6 to 8 weeks.  If he doesn’t have the surgery his thumb could become immobile.

Bri buys a rooster from a local farmer for the hen.  Bella talks with the farmer about her gardening idea so she can get support. The farmer thinks that all of her ideas are good. While the farmer is sharing with the group why her ideas are good ones, Bella keeps interrupting. The farmer does say that they need a bigger garden and to step up production so that they can survive this winter.

Kristin has a business meeting. The group gives her ideas of products that they could sell. Hex says that she could make things out of nails and such that could be sold. Bella offers to have pet memorial rocks, which everyone laughs at. Nikki offers to teach yoga classes in Utopia. (I like that idea best.)  Everyone votes for the yoga idea. Josh kids around and says he wants a taco kissing bar. Of course Bella asks if she can have the first kiss. (Like, no. Stay away, Josh!) That night, Jon announces that he must leave in the morning. He asks that in Utopia they put God first. He hopes to come back eventually. Everyone is very emotional that Jon has to leave and they all agree that he is a good man.

The next morning Jon’s wife comes to pick him up. Bella and Red have an argument because she took the spot Jon gave Red.  Red throws all of Bella’s stuff out of his spot. Bella lets the chickens out and they end up eating cow poop. Hex yells at Bella saying she has no common sense. Mike asks if the group wants him to be treasurer, and they say yes. He announces that they have a little over $3100 left. Nikki has the idea to start UtopiaYoga (love the name) that Friday. So they call everyone they know to get the word out. That night, Josh and Mike decide to cross dress. They both start dancing around and having fun. Everyone laughs and has a good time, which is a shocker!

On the next day, Hex and Red talk about the next person who will be coming to replace David and Jon. Red hopes for someone that is kind of like him.  He also says that he misses his wife, and Jon seeing his wife reminded him of her.  Bella goes out naked to water the garden, and everyone is horrified.  Amanda and Nikki talk about her pregnancy. They also discuss the plans for the birth of her baby. Josh thinks about building a love shack, because it’s dry down there. Nikki says the same and she asks if Josh would have sex with her. He says yes. (Get it girl! Haha, this is just too awkward!) A new guy comes to Utopia. His name is Taylor, he is a cage fighter, a carpenter, a hunter and a cook. He is from Nebraska. Taylor surprises everyone and brings meat with him. Hex is really into Taylor! And the thirst joke continues. That night the guys play baseball. Rob sings a song making fun of Hex’s attraction to Taylor.

It is Friday September 12th, Yoga day!! Josh gets the stove working. They try their first business idea, which is a yoga class and a tour of Utopia for $40 per person. At 4:30 they are going to do yoga, and when that time comes only one person shows up for yoga day. (Haha, not good.) Red and Mike think that the yoga idea is stupid. That night they have a meeting, and lots of people agree the yoga didn’t go well. Josh believes they need to do a better job to make sure their business has a good name behind it. Amanda agrees with Josh, but she wants to focus on the positive. The episode ends there.

Utopia is a really fun show to watch and I can’t wait to see what happens next week!
