Trashy Fridays: Virgin Territory and Utopia

Welcome back to Trashy Fridays! Today we will continue to cover MTV’s “Virgin Territory”and start a new trashy show, “Utopia” from Fox. Let’s get to the trashiness!

“Virgin Territory”

Marjorie
Marjorie still can’t decide if she wants a relationship with Hiago…again… and she thinks guys are annoying.  Her mom was kind of a bitch to her by telling her that it isn’t normal to not be in a relationship at 18, so Marjorie started crying. Honestly her mom is being ridiculous… And her statistic about 18 year old girls being in at least 10 relationships already… omg. Marjorie invites a guy named Andy to the club to see if they can develop a relationship.  She goes to the club with friends (including Hiago) to meet up with Andy, and he blows her off. She becomes discouraged and feels like every guy just hurts her.  Marjorie decides to have a good time with Hiago instead and makes fun of the fact that they both wore red to the club. Hiago is now a crush for Marjorie again. As they talk about relationships, Hiago mentions his parents and that his mom has only ever been with his dad. Marjorie thinks that he is comparing her to his mom and she thinks it is sweet. She is comfortable with Hiago and she has decided to change so she can have a healthy relationship and keep her v-card. And she's off of the show!!! OMG that was way too long with her, but I am glad she made this decision to allow love in and not be afraid of getting hurt.

Alec
Alec wants to tell his friends that he is gay so he gets an "I'm gay" cake! (How cute!)  Unfortunately the side of the cake is messed up so his mom helps him fix it.  His mom tells him that he has her support and he shouldn’t worry about his friends. She also felt bad that he had stress over the issue of being gay for so long. Alec still has his concerns about coming out with his friends. He believes that he’ll lose them and this would crush him. He has a party with his friends and brings out the cake!!!! The cake went over well and his friends accepted him! (Yay!!) They said no one cares and they will love him anyway. Alec is feeling more love than he ever has in his entire life.  (Aw Alec <3) He and his friends go to a gay club and the friends try to help him meet some people. His friend Jon pretends he's gay talks to some people to feel them out, and it’s really funny. He actually got a guy’s phone number. Alec didn’t get any numbers (irony) but he did get some good advice from one gay guy about relationships. Hopefully Alec can find someone he can connect with. Due to the fact that he is new at this, he will need some time to adjust and hopefully he’ll find the one.

Keyaira
Keyaira says that no one has earned the right to have all of her, you go girl! She and Cauri have been talking and he asked her out on a date so she goes clothes shopping to prepare for it. Her friends give her advice on sex and what to do and how long to wait. Her mom has a sex toy party, and since she’s 18, Keyaira was invited. We are then introduced to the guy in Keyaira’s life, Ricky.  Ricky is a green vibrator and apparently Keyaira loves him. The sex toy party was so awkward! They did demos, god so awkward. She and Cauri go to the bowling alley for their first date.  Keyaira isn’t good at bowling, haha. They both got lots of gutter balls.  Keyaira tells Cauri that she hasn’t had a relationship that lasted more than 2 months. Cauri and Keyaira talk about her sex life. She says that the guys she has been with have only wanted to take her virginity, which is really sad. Keyaira says the only person that will be the right one is the one who will wait for her. Cauri agrees and seems okay with her being a virgin.  Mom and Keyaira have a talk about her date and mom wants her to invite Cauri over for a family dinner. For their second date they go roller skating. She talks to Cauri about her mom’s request and he is cool with it. (Her mom is so fun, I swear!) So next episode it shows that Cauri comes over for dinner and Keyaira shows him Ricky. This should be really awkward, but funny! I can’t wait.

John
John is the new guy this week, he is a 19 year old virgin from Arizona. He says the reason that he is still a virgin is because he’s awkward with girls (and he wasn’t kidding). His friends have lost their virginity in odd places and they were drunk mostly. John says when he had gotten close to losing it he got nervous and stopped himself. But John thinks it’s awkward to be a virgin and does want to lose his virginity.  His friends convince him to talk to a girl named Annie at the pool. John shares with us that he has had bad experiences where girls have given him wrong numbers, said their phones died, they moved out of state, and (really funny) cancelled to take a nap. John is so awkward talking to girls and he makes really bad jokes. He invites the girl to a party later and asks for her number, so you think maybe this will work out. But, shocker, the girl never responded to his texts, so John talks to other girls. His humor is so weird.. oh god he definitely blows it. With every girl he just keeps blowing his chances, and it sometimes is really hard to watch. He’s got a good girl friend, Justine, who accepts his weirdness for what it is.  The next day, his friends convince him that he should try to be more than friends with Justine.  So he decides to call Justine and this conversation is, again, just super awkward. She accepts the offer to watch roller derby, but his friends are right by the phone and they know he makes an idiot of himself. (Seriously the faces that they make are just priceless!) Justine and John go on their date. They both seemed to have a lot of fun. At the end of their date, John went in for a kiss while Justine went in for a hug, so the #hugkiss ensued. He still said that kissing her and trying to develop a relationship is very strange. These two are cute, but don’t move too fast John because that can ruin things. I would like to see how this relationship progresses.

“Utopia”

So for “Utopia”, 14 random people (of different backgrounds, skills and careers) are going to try to start their own society and deal with and make decisions on issues that governments normally face.  The 14 individuals involved in the show stay away from their families and form their society in one year. They start off with a barn, 2 cows, some chickens, 5 acres of fertile land, a lake, a telephone, and 5000 dollars. There are no laws, customs, or trade agreements, and those involved in the show make the decisions about these things. Each month one person will leave and a new comer will join the group. These people will have to work together and will need to make decisions with each other. On the first day they have to unpack the items that they brought and decide which ones to keep with them and share with each other. David says his Utopia isn’t Christian and some people seem unhappy. (Cough cough, the pastor!) So David has a meltdown because he wants all of his stuff. A huge swearing argument commences…. So Aaron discovers that Amanda is pregnant but she makes him promise not to tell anyone. Then the men do some construction and can’t figure out the electricity. Josh exclaims that he’s a sexy beast… so he brought some special underwear.. Bella tells everyone her idea to make sure that their waste will not pollute the Earth. She wants to keep the Earth clean... not a bad idea, but she is crazy. A little later in the day, another argument commences and this time it’s about food rations and who has authority in their Utopia. Amanda refuses to eat only twice a day, because she’s pregnant so that’s bad. (But I understand how she feels, because I like food too.) The group decides that they should have a talking stick so that they can allow the group to talk without any arguments starting and so that they can have their opinions heard respectfully. Josh is being very immature and makes fun of others when they insist on saying grace or when they are talking in general. Ugh, I don’t like him!  David makes a nice speech and says they should be proud of their first day. (I like David.) Then an alcohol party is started by the water, great idea. Josh gets inappropriate and flashes everyone. They made a rule that clothing is optional, but he’s taking it way too far. Josh is now drunk and making an ass out of himself. (It’s really funny, though.) He tries to force a kiss on Hex and she gets upset and wants to kill him. Josh also says Amanda should make the beds, um I don’t know what that was about. David and Josh almost get into a huge fight. At the end of the night they have everyone go to bed and sleep off their drunkenness.

The next morning everyone does their chores except Hex, who is very ill. So ill that production calls an ambulance for her and they show her puking. (Gross!!) She actually got alcohol poisoning from last night’s party. They decide to have a trial for Josh, due to his inappropriate behavior to see if he stays. To try and make up for the night before, Josh decides to step it up and help out more in Utopia. The trial occurs after Hex comes back from the hospital, and there is more shut the fuck up all around. The group has a vote and decide he stays, but they set some group rules for him. He can’t drink alcohol for 3 months and he can’t threaten people in any way or the cops will be called. Due to the rumors, Amanda announces that she is pregnant and she will be the only one to deal with the issue.  They also find out the Amanda is a bisexual, and they think it’s cool. Amanda confesses that she has overcome a lot and wants a better life for her new child. That night, Hex and Jonathon talk about religion and they agree that he can share his views as long as he is willing to hear others out. It was really nice to see these two work out that issue, since Jonathon is a Christian Priest and Hex is an atheist. They talked about their beliefs in a respectful manner and they were both willing to hear the other’s point of view. They both agree that they can share their views as long as they listen to others, and this was proven the next day when Jonathon was willing to hear Nikki’s views about spiritual teaching in yoga.

The next morning a chicken dies and Aaron refuses to cook it because he has no idea how it died and if it will cause someone to get ill. Red disagrees and tells him to cook it but Aaron still refuses. This angers him because he feels like he’s disrespected and he has more knowledge than people take him for. Red continues to be mad and he starts just wasting water because he can. Again, Red is still mad so Aaron tries to reason with him and they just start yelling. When Red touches Aaron he threatens to punch him. Red continues to be mad and he is deciding to leave Utopia. David talks with Red, because he doesn’t want him to leave, and he tries to reason with him.  He somehow convinces Red to stay. After, Red and Aaron have a conversation and they were successfully able to work things out.

This concludes the series premiere of this show. The conflicts on the show are going to get worse, but I think that this does make for an interesting premise so far.
