How to Prepare for Finals

We are nearing the end of the semester already and it’s time to start thinking about final exams. I have tips on keeping up with studying and more stress relieving tips for this crucial time in the semester.

Studying: Hopefully you have spent the semester finding ways that optimize your studying habits. I suggest doing some studying by yourself, doing some with your classmates, and looking over your previous exams. A lot of the time, teachers will use questions from the midterms you’ve already taken. Do as many practice questions as you can! The more you do the easier the exam will be for you. If you have multiple exams to study for, I keep a schedule and minimally study 2 hours per subject, per day. Then the day before one exam, I study that subject a little more, like 3.5 hours that day, and keep with the 2 hours for the rest of the subjects.  Try any study tips that work for you.

Stress: Again, this is a killer this time of the semester. Some schools have stress managing workshops that will have a variety of activities to decrease stress. Remember to take time for yourself and do something fun during your study breaks. You do need to take breaks or else you will overwhelm yourself.  You can also do stress relieving activities at home, like meditation. Taking some time for deep breaths and positive thinking really helps. There are videos on Youtube that can also help with mediation, and the best part is that a session takes about 10 minutes.

Test Anxiety:  If you experience test anxiety you must give yourself a pep talk. If you studied and have done all the work, you have nothing to be worried about. Just takes some deep breaths and tell yourself that you can do this!
