Disney Princess Nails: Belle

Tale as old as time…  These nails are inspired by the princess Belle from the movie Beauty and the Beast (1991).  Each month I will bring you a new set of nails based on a Disney princess, in the order of their release.

You’ll need:
Base coat
Top coat (I prefer Seche Vite)
Striper brush
Neutral (like a pearl shade), yellow, light brown, dark brown, light pink, medium pink, red, green, light/medium blue, white, light purple, black, nude and glitter top coat nail polishes (I used: Essie in limo-scene; Pure Ice in Excuse Me; Sally Hansen Satin Glam in 01 Go Gold; OPI Nail Lacquer in You Don’t Know Jacques! Suede; Cover Girl Continuous Color in Parisian Pink 052; Sephora by OPI in Three Way Mirror; Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Color in 89 Honeymoon Red; Butter London in British Racing Green; OPI Nail Lacquer in Can’t Find My Czechbook; Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in 110 Hard to Get; Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in 370 No Hard Feelings; Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in 880 Black Heart; OPI Nail Lacquer in My Vampire is Buff; and Juicy Couture glitter top coats in pink glitter and gold glitter)

Start with a base coat.  Paint your pinky and thumb a neutral color, like a pearly shade, your ring and index nails yellow, and your middle nail light brown.

Starting with the simplest nail, use just the tip of your striper brush dipped in light pink to paint “bonjour” on your ring fingernail.  (If you can do it in cursive, that’s really pretty!)  Add pink and gold glitter around the writing.

On your index fingernail use the striper brush to create the rose in the jar.  Red rose petals pointed toward the right side of the nail, a bendy green stem with droopy leaves, and red petals lying under the flower.  Use the striper brush dipped in dark brown to paint the jar, with a round bottom and two small ovals on top.

Use the striper brush in blue to create the back of Belle’s blue dress on your pinky.  (Just from the waist up, so a small square shape in the middle at the base of your nail with two small rectangles extending upward from each side of the square.)  Use the striper brush in white to fill in the space between the blue and the edges of your nail, and the space between the two blue rectangles (so there is essentially a straight line across the middle of your nail).  Use the striper brush in dark brown to create sort of a heart shape above the center part of the dress, with a small, rounded diamond shape extending from the bottom of the heart (for Belle’s ponytail).  Use the striper brush dipped in blue to make a bow where the heart and the diamond meet.

On your thumb use the striper brush dipped in white to create the shape of Chip on the left side of the nail.  (Don’t forget the crack in the teacup!)  Dip your striper brush in yellow to outline the top and bottom edges of the teacup, then create a small purple triangle at the bottom with a yellow edge underneath and a few small pink and blue dots along the top of the purple section.  Now use the striper brush to create a mouth (I did a medium pink crescent shape with a light pink dot for the tongue), outline the mouth and paint the eye and eyebrow in black, and add the yellow handle!

For the middle fingernail we are going to show Belle on the ladder in front of the bookcase from the scene with the song “Little Town!”  Use the striper brush dipped in dark brown to paint horizontal lines across the entire nail, with a slightly wider space at the base.  In the wider space, create two dark brown square outlines then place a yellow dot in the middle of each.  (These are the drawers.)  Use the striper brush and various colors (I did light pink, purple and green) to add books on the shelves.  Use the striper brush and dark brown to make a ladder toward the left side of the nail, and then blue and white to create the shape of Belle’s dress as she leans off the ladder toward the right side of the nail.  Then use the nude polish to create hands, legs, a neck and a head; white to add an apron at the waist; dark brown for the ponytail; blue for the bow; and black for the face.  Add a top coat to each nail and you’re done!
