A Healthy Start

A Healthy Start:

Ahh summer, the perfect time to get out there and do more outdoor activities. During this time, many of us want to get into our beach bodies. Here are some tips, that I have found very helpful to get on a road to healthy living.

1) Always start your day with a healthy breakfast- I believe if you start the day healthy, it's easier to make healthy choices throughout the day. I do understand that it can be hard for some us to try and eat a good breakfast, but I have the solution to that problem. An amazing choice to start your morning is to make smoothies. You can use whatever kind of fruits or veggies that you enjoy. The best thing about summer is that you have the option of using fresh or frozen fruits/veggies in your smoothies. I have discovered through my smoothie making journey that watermelon is an amazing fruit to use! It helps to make your smoothies sweeter, without adding sugar, and can add a more flavorful liquid. Here's one of my favorite smoothies to have during the summer.

My very berry smoothie:
-3-4 pieces of seedless watermelon
-7 frozen strawberries sliced
-1 handful of frozen blueberries
1/3 cup of vanilla almond milk
Directions: Put ingredients into the blender, blend and enjoy.-This is a really refreshing and cold smoothie that will be enjoyed :) ~150 calories per smoothie

2) One thing that I find trouble with is consuming more water daily. Drinking soda and other sugary beverages just gives your body more unnecessary calories throughout your day. Water actually gets rid of lots of toxins and regulates your body. When you drink a lot of water you even feel like your stomach is thinner. Now I'm not saying that you need to have 8 glasses of water per day, because that is a lot of liquid. Start yourself by drinking 4 per day. Try to avoid the beverages with a lot of sugar and calories. If you want to drink something with flavor, try cranberry juice or a lemon water to change it up.

Easy Lemon Water:
1 Glass
Water
Ice
Lemons or bottled lemon juice
Directions: Fill your glass 2/3 the way with ice. Put 2 Tbsps of lemon juice in the glass. Add water, stir, and enjoy.

3) Make time during the summer to get outside and do some physical activities. Go for a walk, go swimming with your friends, etc. Find fun things that you like to do, so exercise is a pleasurable thing for you to do.

Take this journey of healthy living slowly. Don't push yourself too hard at first, because this process will take a bit of time to adjust to.

I personally like to make myself a list of small goals that I like to do daily. This helps you to accomplish the tasks that you wanted to complete for the day.

Do exercises, like push ups, sit ups, etc. during the commercials of your favorite show. Start by doing 2 or 3 of each exercise per commercial break for a 30 minute show. Then gradually increase the amount of reps and time that you will be doing it
