Trashy Friday: Selfie and Bad Judge

Welcome back to Trashy Fridays! Today we’ll be changing things up and going with two brand new shows that premiered this week. They are Abc’s Selfieand NBC’s Bad Judge. Thank you guys again for all the support you have given us. Now let’s get to the trashiness!

Selfie
Honestly when I saw the trailer for this show, I just knew deep in my heart that it belonged on this series. So, this show follows Eliza, who was the really geeky girl in school. She decides that since she hasn’t had a lot of fun or good attention that she will follow the lead of the most popular girl in her seventh grade class. (Oh boy.) Eliza makes herself look just like her and she has an Instagram account on which she posts a lot of selfies. She feels accomplished because she has 200 Facebook friends and lots of followers. (Slow claps for Eliza.) Then, Eliza and her coworkers are on a plane for some reason, and omg this show is ridiculous with teen/young adult technology references. Two of her coworkers talk about her and one says "Oh, she has to match her lipstick to her thong." (Based on her Instagram account… This cannot be a thing, I’m sorry, it shouldn’t be a thing.) So Eliza tries to kiss her boyfriend and finds out that he is married, based on the convenient tan line that exists due to his wedding band. Eliza said she had to gif herself through the breakup. (OMG stop, this is just stupid!) Due to this devastating news, she pukes and as she goes to the bathroom the air sickness bags break. Her puke goes all over her dress and people laugh at her. (I really didn’t need to see that. So f-ing disgusting!) The flight attendant gives her a different outfit, because she took hers off and refused to leave the bathroom without a new one. So as she leaves the bathroom everyone takes pictures of her on the plane. (Really letting her have it I guess. This is so unrealistic and bad.) Everyone was very unsympathetic about her break up. She asks her friends through text if they can give her things and they just laugh and say her life sucks. (Her friends are bitches I guess?) Eliza decides that her so called internet friends aren’t the same as having real friends and it makes her sad.

The next day she goes to work hoping that everyone forgot about the incident. (Probably not, but she did use a Frozen reference, so that made me a little happy.) One of her co-workers, named Henry was able to help the company remarket a product in a positive way. Eliza decides she needs him to do the same thing with her image. At first he isn’t too interested in the idea, but she insists that if he doesn’t like her he can change her into something positive. (Also, she said "hashtag" in a sentence, no one should ever do this. Please leave the hashtags for Twitter.) Well, somehow Henry is convinced to do it and he starts the next day. He first tells her to do whatever he says, even if it’s unorthodox.  Henry starts her with the receptionist Charmonique. Eliza never asks how she is doing and tells her a TMI story that no one cares about. Henry shows her how to ask “How are you?” Eliza does it in a very weird fashion and it just makes the conversation very uncomfortable and awkward. This show does a very good job of showing how no one likes to stay off their phones, but it is not very funny at all. (In fact it is just not very entertaining really.) It seems like Henry will not get through to Eliza about her habit for a few episodes.

For her next assignment, Henry asks if she will go to a wedding with him. But he tells her to dress classy and wear very little makeup. Eliza notices that she doesn’t have anything that is not slutty to wear and all of her friends really can’t help her. So she turns to her frenemy, Brin. Brin is a very conservative girl, who goes with the DIY trends, and has lots of friends. She and her book club friends come over to give Eliza an outfit. (Eliza shows that she wears implants in her butt and boobs. That’s really crazy because she doesn’t need any of it to be pretty.) Since Brin and her friend are doing a lot for her, Eliza wonders if that's what real friends do for each other. Henry sees her and doesn’t really pay her a compliment. (Omg really? She looked amazing.) So, at the wedding she practices her “How are you's?” and gets a lot of compliments. As she looks at the bride and groom she becomes very bored and insecure. It goes to a flashback when she didn’t have anyone at this one dance. She reveals that she turned to her phone to distract her from her feelings. So she plays it at the wedding and embarrasses Henry. Henry decides that she is a lost cause and doesn’t want to help her anymore. (That didn’t take too long.) While babysitting Charmonique’s child, she notices she finally cares about someone other than herself. Charmonique says whatever Henry is doing is helping. After this amazing revelation, she goes to visit Henry.  She tells him that she isn’t a lost cause and there is so much more she can learn from him. They apologize to each other for hurting each other’s feelings and it starts to rain. (And rain on a roof is Eliza’s favorite sound.) The show ends with her trying to take a selfie with Henry. He says he will improve in a lot of ways.

This show was so bad, I can’t say I’ll be watching it again.

Bad Judge
We start out with the judge sleeping in her room after a great night (she has sparkling panties, which look nice and uncomfortable at the same time) and she has to go buy a pregnancy test. She's not the nicest girl as she parks in the handicap spot in front of a guy in a wheelchair. Then she goes to work. Judge Wright takes her test (it’s negative, so yay!) and she has her bailiff dispose of it. He is pretty funny and was like "What am I supposed to do with this? Really?" The poor judge has a hangover. She has to sit through the testimony of a psychologist and she gets bored. Judge Wright just wants to have the defendant be released on bail. So she asks the defendant in a smart fashion about him being a flight risk and she finds out he has been looking up flights to Costa Rica. Judge Wright denies his bail and asks the psychologist for a sex session on her desk. He stops after finding the pregnancy test and has (very dumb) concerns. The judge gets a call from Lincoln High and she goes to the school to help out some lady’s son. (She put both of this kid's parents in jail, so she feels obligated to help him out.)  So, she sees the kid and he reveals he got in trouble for drawing a bad picture of one of his teachers. The judge uses her legal training to get his sentence down to an apology. (This judge gets things done and I like her! Her attitude toward everything is awesome! Seriously, as she gets her breakfast, she just doesn’t give a f and she just owns it! Love it.) Judge Wright again goes to Lincoln High to help Robbie, the little boy. This time he drew his teacher’s head as a penis. Not cool. The judge notices that he lies to get her to come, which she doesn’t like. When she drops him off at the group home, she gives him some (questionable) advice on facing his bully. We return to the same case from earlier, and the guy’s wives testify. They basically make the same testimony, like it was rehearsed and the judge doesn’t buy it. Judge Wright finds him guilty and makes him go to a feminist class with an “I am a convicted bigamist" shirt. (Just like the trailer. I love her brand of justice!) He complains, saying he won’t get chicks that way. (Hahaha, he isn’t a nice guy.) Robbie says after hitting his bully that he got in a lot trouble, and he will be sent to a school for violent kids. He can’t go there (because he’ll get eaten alive, according to Wright), so again, Judge Wright has to bail him out. Judge Wright goes to visit the psychologist that she almost slept with to testify that Robbie isn’t a violent kid. Then Rebecca makes a speech so she can receive an award. Judge Wright succeeds at keeping Robbie in his current home and she ends the night going to the bar again. (Not a good idea, but oh well.)

This show was so much better than Selfie, and I enjoyed it! This judge lays down the law in an amazing way and I just love her attitude.
